I’m adding two new great resources to the NC online resources sidebar. The first is Documenting the American South. This is an exemplary site for North Carolina primary resources. Just used it with a volunteer today to nearly confirm the son of a man from Bertie County, NC in the 1720’s by their registration of brands. The second resource is Lowcountry Africana. It is a superb site dedicated to
…records that document the family and cultural heritage of African Americans in the historic rice-growing areas of South Carolina, Georgia and extreme northeastern Florida, an area that scholars and preservationists have identified as a distinct culture area. Lowcountry Africana was developed with a grant from the Magnolia Plantation Foundation of Charleston, South Carolina.
So… enjoy exploring these super resources.
